Abstract

The objectives of this project are synthesis and characterization of new polymers following principles of green chemistry, using industrial wastes (glycerol), several vegetable oils such as babassu, soybean, grape, macauba and sunflower; and low cost reagents as maleic anhydride. An important point in this project is add value to bio-commodities produced in Brazil. Simultaneous Thermogravimetric/Derivative Thermogravimetry-Differential Thermal Analysis (TG/DTG-DTA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) will characterize the synthesized polymers. Complementary studies will be made by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR 1H and 13C), High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) as well as inherent viscosity, density and solvent resistance. Hence, after characterization will be possible propose applications for the synthesized polymers. (AU)
