Abstract

This project aims the synthesis and characterization of new monomers and polymers using as reactants vegetable oil (biomass), cyclic anhydrides, and polyol by two different synthetic routes (microwave and photopolymerization) following the Green Chemistry principles. The important point in this project is provide values to Brazilian bio-commodities, whereas the vegetable oil must be modified its chemical structure to increase the reactivity, yielding polymers. It is still intended in this project synthesize new polymer by photopolymerization using as reactants acrylic monomers with macromers obtained from reactions of different anhydrides, polyol, and vegetable oils. These new polymers will be characterized, and the results can provide the best applications. All the monomers and polymers are going to characterized by: Simultaneous Thermogravimetric/Derivative Thermogravimetry-Differential Thermal Analysis (TG/DTG-DTA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (MIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR 1H and 13C), High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS), as well as solvent resistance.
