Abstract

The Sociology of Health and Social Studies of Science are now interested in analyze the new relationship between health and new technologies. Advances in society became the subject more complex, multiplying the controversies and uncertainties in health issues. Over the past century, changes in the epidemiological studies contributed to the emergence of new diseases and, with them, new in the environmental and management risks. In some areas of science, sociological research played an important role by analyzing the implications of the use of scientific knowledge in contemporary society. The field of 'Life Science', for example, has presenting a curious 'fluidity' in its disciplinary boundaries, especially over the last thirty years. Its intellectual composition and technology content are rapidly changing the field since the 1980s (Rose, 2007). Biotechnology has been developed diverse technologies for intervention of biological life and humanity intellectuality. At the end of the twentieth century, the production of biological knowledge was changing radically, producing using new bases and research methodology different from the pre-1980 phase (Nowotny et. Al. 2001). In this sense, the increase of interactions between biological research and its implications in social life made the emergency of biotechnology as a rich subject for sociological analysis, which is demonstrated in the amount of work published in the field since the 1980s. Some fields of science are quite controversial and among them, stem cells research, as it points to a field of research in which market influence are relevant, and issues related to ethics and governance are equally important. In this perspective, we propose to explore in this project a comparative study between Brazil and India, that will allow a deeper understanding of new technologies in the healthscape. (AU)
