Abstract

Sensory-Motor Synchronization (SSM) can be defined as the coordination of body movements with external stimuli, from simple movements such as clapping in synchronism with a song, to coordinated and complex rhythmic movements in everyday activities such as writing, Dance or perform sports activities. Although these skills are naturally developed from childhood, the presence of motor disorders and development may be associated with poor performance in tasks that require motor coordination. The tasks of finger tapping based on the SSM paradigm have contributed to both the diagnosis and the treatment of motor and neurological disorders, where the training of these skills is used for the rehabilitation of sensory-motor functions. The present project aims to investigate the use of finger tapping tasks in synchronism with an external stimulus in two conditions: music versus metronome. Children with typical development, between 6 and 10 years old, of both sexes, in public and private schools will be selected. The performance in the SSM tasks will be correlated with the scores obtained by the children in behavior scales and the Sensory Profile, in addition to scales that evaluate the Executive Functions in daily life. The study will be carried out with the hypothesis that the musical stimulus facilitates the performance of the children in finger tapping, and that there is a relation between the tasks of SSM and the Sensory Profile of the children, as well as in the behavior and Executive Functions.
