3D longitudinal evaluation of the stability of the dental arches in cleft and non cleft patients before and after orthodontic treatment and prosthetic rehabilitation.

Abstract

The purpose of this project will assess the longitudinal tooth stability from the measurement of linear dimensions, area and volume of the dental arches in patients with cleft lip and palate. The sample will be composed in 180 digital models of patients with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate (n = 60, UCLP) and non cleft lip and palate patients (n = 30, NCLP), aged between 20 and 30 years, recorded in times: completion of orthodontic treatment (T1) and one year after prosthetic rehabilitation for patients with cleft, and one year after removal of orthodontic appliances for patients without cleft lip and palate (T2). Digital models will be divided into 3 groups: 20 UCLP models with fixed partial denture (FPD), 20 UCLP models with implant supported prosthesis (ISP) and 20 NCLP (NCLP). The dimensions of the dental arches of the measures will be carried out directly on the scanned images through the scanner 3Shape's R700TM and measured by VECTRA H1 System. The following dimensions will be obtained: intercanine distance, intermolar distance, anteroposterior length, area and volume of the dental arch. A calibrated and trained examiner will conduct the evaluations. The results will be subjected to appropriate analysis, considering the factors studied. P-values less than 0.05 will be considered statistically signicant. (AU)
