Abstract

Diuron, N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N,N-dimethyl urea, is a phenylamide herbicide, belonging to the subclass of phenylurea. In Brazil, this substitute of urea herbicides has been used on many agricultural crops such as cofee, fruits, cotton, sugar cane, alfafa and wheat. Diuron is considered a Priority Hazardous Substance by the European Commision, being classified as II – IV toxicological level. In carcinogenicity evaluations this herbicide increases the incidence of some types of tumors in NMR1 mices anda Wistar rats. Many studies has been showed that herbicides affect the immunological system, the interaction of xenobiotics and immune components is able to take to a immunological dysfunction in the host and, for consequence, increased chances of auto-immunes diseases and hipersensibility reactions or even neoplasias. The objective of this studie is to evaluate the immunotoxical potencial of Diuron in Wistar rats, observing general parameters of toxity ( body and organ weights , water and ration consumption ) , biochemistries analyse of creatinin and alanin aminotrasferasis (ALT), hematological parameters ( global and relative count of blood and bone marrow cells), linfohematopoetics, liver and kidneys organs histology and immunological parameters ( linfocites phenotype, citokine dosages and linfoproliferative aspect). The studie has 4 major groups of Wistar rats: 1- Negative control, 2- Positive Control, 3,4,5- Diuron treated group (different doses) and 6- Diuron treated group until 90 days and then a stop period ( in administration) before sacrifictaion.
