Abstract

The venom of Bothrops jararaca causes exuberant inflammatory reactions in mammals, but these snakes are resistant to their own poison in their plasma and have a large amount of protease inhibitors. One of these inhibitors, the BjHK (Bothrops jararaca high molecular weight kininogen) inhibits metalloproteinases of the venom of B. jararaca, primarily responsible for the inflammatory response induced by this venom in mammals. The objective of this project is to evaluate the effect of this protein in the development of changes in leukocyte-endothelium interactions induced by a metalloprotease isolated from the venom of B. jararaca in the microcirculation of the cremaster muscle of mice.
