Abstract

Introduction: The variation of diet is a potential error source in food intake assessment studies that make difficult to achieve the accuracy and precision in the evaluation of habitual intake. Adult's variation intake data is better known in literature, while there are few studies evaluating the variation of nutrients intake in childhood. Objectives: To estimate the within and between-person variation of nutrients intake among pre-scholars living in different regions of Brazil. Methodology: Secondary data from a cross-sectional and multicentric study performed in 2007 will be used. This study collected data of pre-scholars living in Manaus, Natal, Recife, Brasília, Cuiabá, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo and Porto Alegre. In each city, were included 250 public pre-school children and 100 particular pre-school children, resulting in 3150 sample size, both males and females aging between 3 and 6 years old. Economic status and food intake data were collected. The weighed food and the diet record methods were chosen for measure the food intake. The estimative of within and between-person variation was performed with a random sub-sample collected in 25% of children studied (n=788). The means and standard deviation of nutrients intake will be described according to economic and demographic variables, as well the within and between-person variation of nutrients intake will be estimated. Moreover, the number of days necessary to evaluate the food intake with 90% of confidence will be calculated.
