Authorities network and support to social interaction on the web: a culturally-informed approach

Abstract

The evolution of web technologies in recent years is allowing the development of more interactive and complex applications, enabling web users to interact with each other, creating, publishing and sharing contents, in unprecedented way and scale. However, this easiness in interaction and contents production contributes to the existence of an information overload on the web, in the sense that there are no practical means to assist users identifying the quality of information and the authority of its producers. Also, few are solutions that support users on issues regarding trust and confidence in social interactions occurring on the web. These solutions need to consider aspects of the development of universal and accessible interfaces, due to the heterogeneity of web users and social aspects involved in interactions among them. This research investigates and proposes solutions that involve and consider users to soften the impacts caused by the information overload on the web and to support interactions regard mainly to authority, trust, reputation and credibility among them. Hence, we propose to investigate and develop social networks for identifying information related to the context of authority among its members, and their use for quality improvement in the information retrieval of collaborative systems and for supporting human-computer-human interaction on the web. For its development, this research will take advantages from results of e-Cidadania and TagManager Projects, and may produce useful results within the context of each of these projects.
