Abstract

This project proposes a research about the computer's use as an musical performance instrument (tool, se preferir) and interactive systems organizer for real time applications. The approach will be on algorithmic writing in compositional processes generated in two fashions: 1) by electric and digital devices such as: microphones, keyboards, sliders, accelerometers, joysticks and light and image sensors; 2) by algorithms for extraction of specific sound characteristics (music-acoustic descriptors) like rithmic, melodic and harmonic patterns and spectral content variation, such as spectral flow or mass center. Given that, it is also intended to study the free software and hardware application in Arduino board usage and Pure Data (PD) and SuperCollider programming languages. This study is about: a) interface building, b) proposing algorithmic and interational processes and c) creative utilization of both in musical composition. It is intended that the results obtained in this work may help understanding implications in the computer's use as a musical instrument and bring light in relevant aspects and characteristics of these resources in the present musical context.
