Abstract Are still preliminary studies about the removal and inactivation of pathogenic protozoa - Giardia spp. and Cryptosporidium spp. - in various stages of sewage treatment. This study aims to assess and compare the removal and inactivation of these pathogenic protozoa with indicator organisms - total coliforms, Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens - in a sewage treatment plant (STP) on a pilot scale. For this, we intend to examine a treatment system consisting of UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket), activated sludge, sand filter, followed by disinfection with chlorine, ozone and ultraviolet radiation. Finally, check in full-scale WWTP (WWTP Monjolinho, located in São Carlos - SP), the behavior of microorganisms in the processing steps and in river water. | |
