Abstract Edema disease is a systemic disease of weaned piglets caused by strains of E. coli that produce a variant of Shiga toxin 2 (Stx2e). This disease as well as post weaning diarrhea are largely distributed in our country, being that in some regions the constant use of antimicrobials led to later occurrence of this disease, in other words, in growing and finishing phases, causing larger economic losses due to mortality. In these outbreaks are common also a high frequency of strains showing antibiotic multirresistance. Face of this picture the present study has as goals of determine the presence of virulence factor related to Stx2e from pigs through PCR, identify the strains serotype associated to edema disease, establish resistance profile from strains positive to Stx2e toxin front to antimicrobials used un swine production, evaluate the Stx2e expression in Vero cells and analyze the genetic similarity among isolates through pulsed field electrophoresis. Data obtained become possible a better understanding about epidemiology of this E. coli patotype in Brazil and will be a important help to future works searching control and the prevention of disease caused by it | |
