Abstract

This study consists of a follow up of the research entitled "Stigma and Discrimination Related to HIV / AIDS: Impacts of the Epidemic in Children and Youth in the City of São Paulo" (funded by FAPESP 03/10883-5), and aims to investigate the abuse of alcohol and other drugs in the homes where we can find young people whose parents (or both) have died of AIDS. The study will be exploratory and descriptive in nature and adopt a qualitative methodology. Participants will be young people (aged 15-24 years) of both sexes of families who are living in the Northwest and West Zones of São Paulo and have been visited in the home based study cited above. Data collection will take place through observation of the home context recorded on a field diary, interviews based on questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, which will subsidize the construction of the Map Network of respondents, among other information. Data will be analyzed through content analysis and interpreted by the Vulnerability and Human Rights framework. We will use the software Atlas / ti 5.0 to aid in categorization of reports obtained from interviews. Being the family the target of various health care initiatives and psychosocial support efforts, both in terms of public policies and new health technology arrangements, as well as of growing academic production, this study aims to contribute in a relevant way for planning psychosocial and integral care for vulnerable adolescents and their families and actions to prevent drug and alcohol abuse.
