Abstract

Range of motion (ROM) refers to the complete movement of a given joint can be accomplished by one individual, and affects all structures in the region. It is therefore important to provide balance between mobility and stability, and before that, it is crucial parameter used in assessment and follow-up physiotherapy. However, this joint mobility varies from one individual to another and is influenced by gender, age, genetic factors, integrity and flexibility of soft tissues and lifestyle. Biological aging leads to a progressive loss of functional abilities of the organism. This associated with profound changes in the activity of cells, tissues and organs, as well as reducing the effectiveness of a range of physiological processes, decreased muscle mass, flexibility and increased stiffness of the periarticular tissue and intramuscular injection. The aim of this study is to evaluate the difference in range of motion of elderly, male, aged 65-75 years and comparing the mobility between these and adult healthy men, as well as the difference in dominance (right and left) and loss mobility with advancing age. Measures of passive range of motion will be analyzed: flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, medial and lateral rotation of right and left shoulders, through the use of the goniometer. Will also be assessed the intra and inter-raters.
