Abstract

The use of alcohol and drugs in Brazil and abroad grows progressively with increasingly demands of treatment and innovative strategies for the health care of individuals who do this use. The instrument Global Appraisal of Individual Needs - Initial aims to support prevention, detection, treatment planning, evaluation of services and scientific research on this subject. This instrument has a culturally adapted version of the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil, but still no studies and tests were realized to assess their psychometric properties. This study aims to measure the validity and reliability of this instrument for use in our population. To measure the reliability of the instrument, is calculated its internal consistency, by measuring Cronbach's alpha (or coefficient alpha). To measure the validity will be measured to construct validity. This is addressed in different ways, but there is always an emphasis on testing the relationships provided with bases in theoretical considerations. In this study, we use the technique known groups.
