Abstract

A prospective experimental randomized controlled study with 12 male dogs will be done. The first surgical step will be the billateral mandibular pre-molars and molars extractions. In a second moment, five circunferential defects will be performed with a 6-mm-trephine in one site of the mandible. These defects will be grafted with BioOss Block", BioOss Collagen", BioOss" in granules, autogenous bone block and coagulum (control), with a randomized distribution for the five defects. At the same procedure, an implant will be placed in each defect. After eight weeks, other five bone defects will be made in the opposite side, with the same steps described for the first side. After blocks' adaptation, implants will be placed by the mesial margin of the defect, providing tight contact with the block graft (positioned in distal region of the defect) in its cervical region. After the described procedure, membranes BioGide" will be placed in half of the sides by each experimental group, to compare to bone healing of the sides in which they were not placed. Time points of 8 and 16 weeks will be used. After sacrifice, ground sections will be submitted to micro-CT, histological and histometric analysis. Implants stability will be assessed by Resonance Frequency Analysis (RFA) by implant placement and right after sacrifice. (AU)
