Abstract

Stem cells (CT) are defined by their ability to self-renewal and differentiation into multiple cell types, and so can be classified according to their potential differentiation in embryonic adult and embryonic stem cells are derived from the ICM of the blastocyst, while between adult CT sources include the umbilical cord, bone marrow, pulp, fat, among others. Marrow became one of the most studied and used and we know that from this source we find both hematopoietic stem cells (CTHs) and mesenchymal stem cells (Mscs). Another source widely used for Cellular therapy is cord blood, in which the fabric is usually discarded after childbirth. Our group has compared the efficiency of the insulation and the origin of the Mscs of tissue and blood from the umbilical cord (human umbilical cord tissue mesenchymal stem cells - hUCT MSC) from the same donor and remarked that no blood, but the cord itself, which is routinely thrown during stem cell collection, is the richest source in Mscs. the potential of the CTM has been researched in various therapies such as bone regeneration, facial grafts, reconstruction of cartilage, and diabetes. The influence of sex is a variable often forgotten, however relevant since it is remarkable how gender influences life expectancy and predisposition to diseases. To decrease these variables we chose as a source for comparison between cells of different sexes the CTM of the umbilical cord since these are obtained in conditions similar to and at the same stage of life of the unborn child.(AU)
