Mulberry hay in lamb diet fed with in natura sugarcane

Abstract

This study will be developed in the Sheep Sector from the Department of Animal Science of the FCAV - Unesp, Jaboticabal, SP. It will be used 24 Ile de France lambs, with 15 to 32 kg of body weight. Different additions of mulberry hay in the concentrate of the lambs fed with in natura sugar-cane will be evaluated, having the diets the ratio forage:concentrate of 50:50. The treatments will consist of D1: sugar-cane + concentrate without mulberry hay; D2: sugar-cane + concentrate with 25% of mulberry hay and D3: sugar-cane + concentrate containing 50% of mulberry hay. The sugar-cane used is the variety IAC 86-2480 and the concentrates composed of soybean meal, ground corn, soybean oil, urea, limestone and dicalcium phosphate, and vitamin mineral supplement, with or without mulberry hay. The aim of this study will be to evaluate the performance (dry matter intake, body weight gain and feed conversion), the digestibility of nutrients (DM, OM, CP, EE, NDF, ADF, TC and NFC), the nitrogen balance, the microbial protein synthesis, the quality parameters of the meat (pH, temperature, color, water holding capacity, cooking loss, shear force, sarcomere length and sensorial analysis), the chemical composition of meat (moisture, crude protein, ether extract and mineral matter), the fatty acid profile and cholesterol content. The experimental design will be completely randomized with three treatments and eight repetitions, being the comparisons of the contrasts between treatment means made by Tukey test at 5% and the analysis of variance according to the procedures of SAS (2003).
