Abstract

This research project aims to determine the occurrence of helminths and coccidia of the genus Eimeria spp. and Cryptosporidium spp. in fecal samples from lambs up to one year of age Alambari the city of São Paulo. A total of 165 fecal samples from lambs up to one year of age of all the sheep industry (four properties) of that locality, were collected. The technique of egg counts per gram of feces (EPG) was performed to determine the presence of helminths and coccidia of the genus Eimeria were prepared and stained with Kinyoun method to verify the elimination of Cryptosporidium spp. In OPG with positive rates above 500 will be performed stool cultures for recovery of the larvae, thus establishing the percentage for the respective genres to be identified and Eimeria spp. the material will be maintained in a solution of potassium dichromate 2.5% for subsequent sporulation of oocysts and measurement for the classification of species. Since the microscopy positive samples will be characterized molecularly, by polymerase chain reaction to amplify fragments of the 18S subunit rRNA and sequencing of the amplified fragments. The statistical analysis consisted of chi-square test to verify the association of the presence of these intestinal parasites in relation to gender, race and age of the animals.
