Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is currently 51.3% of deaths from chronic non-communicable diseases among women and 46.3% in men in most countries. These diseases are closely related to abdominal obesity. Important fact, since the rates of overweight / obesity has increased markedly in recent years in Brazil. Currently the energy density has been considered a potential factor in the change of control signaling of appetite (hunger and satiety) may therefore be a possible tool for controlling weight gain and thus reducing cardiovascular risk. Objectives: To investigate the relationship between energy density and diet associated with cardiovascular risk factors in adults and elderly in São Paulo. Methodology: This study is characterized as a cross, which will calculate the energy density of the diet and meals, using data obtained from two 24-hour recalls, applied to two previously conducted population studies. The value of energy density is determined using two methods recognized by the literature and described by Cox and Mela (2000) and Rolls (2009). The values of energy density will be divided into tertiles and correlated with some cardiovascular risk factors in this same population: total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, C-reactive protein high sensitivity, waist circumference and blood pressure) through Multiple logistic regression. The control variables will be elected as age, smoking, sex and intake of drugs for treatment of dyslipidemia. (AU)
