Abstract

Lactate is a salt resulting from the conversion of pyruvate and catalyzed by the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase after the process of glucose metabolism, being responsible for reoxidation of NADH and capture of H+ ions accumulated during glycolysis, anaerobic, in the cytosol. Besides his action as an intramuscular buffering and as a substrate for gluconeogenesis in the liver, its physiological actions are little studied. Routinely, this salt is measured by sports physiologists as a parameter in the identification of metabolic muscle fatigue and as a response to increased intensity during exercise. Simultaneously, the GH levels circulating in the bloodstream are present raised during physical activity. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in this release are also not fully elucidated. It is known that the secretion of this hormone is responsive to falling blood glucose and to the high levels of stress caused by intense physical exercise. However, studies suggest that high serum concentrations of lactate are responsible for triggering various physiological responses of this condition, such as the improvement of cognitive activity, production of neurotrophic factors and stimulation of the release of pituitary hormones (possibly GH). The purpose of this study is to mimic the specific responses of different degrees of intensity physical activity by intravenous infusion of various concentrations of lactate and evaluate its effect on the activity of the somatotropic axis, in order to identify if there is an activation pathway exclusive synthesis and secretion of GH induced by this condition.
