Preferential topoclimatic conditions to parica(Schizolobium parahybavar. amazonicum(Huber ex. Ducke) Barneby plantations and evidence of performance to optimize the forestry in deforested areas in the Amazon

Abstract

Today's greatest challenge is to meet growing demands for raw materials in a responsible manner. Therefore, the world researches are lead to the development and transfer of technologies which are able to establish systems of sustainable production. In Brazil, historically the different uses and covers of the land have been encouraging changes in the standards of covering and forest diversity. Of the Atlantic forest only 7.9% remain and the Amazon is the target of intense promoter deforestation activities. Efficient environmentally friendly measures have become necessary to reduce the deforestation, preserve the standing forest, to maintain the ecosystem and to increase the productivity in already modified areas. In these circumstances, the forestry of native species represents a potentially mitigating activity. The objective of this project is to obtain preferred topoclimatic information able to subsidize planting actions and offer the redesign of landscapes in the state of Pará. Therefore, the Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum (Huber ex. Ducke) Barneby (paricá) forest specie has been chosen as it represents economic, environmental and social importance and the possibility of extension of the production chain. Data in a natural situation will be evaluated in topoclimatic surface information using map algebra in a Geographic Information System (GIS) in order to integrate physical and biological variables. The municipality of Dom Eliseu (PA) has been chosen as the monitoring area since it presents plantation poles of the species and needs information able to subsidize the planning of the planting. A field survey of agrometeorological (air humidity and temperature), dendrometric (diameter at breast height (D.B.H.) and commercial and total height) data and spectral response of the paricá using satellite images will be carried out. The evaluation of the main patterns in the landscape will be performed in two periods, the rainier and the less rainy, hoping to record evidence of the plants' response to the environment conditions to subsidize the strategic planning in the state of Pará.
