Abstract

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the addition of annatto oily extract in broiler diets and their antioxidants and hypolipidemic effects. For the first experiment 750 Cobb 500 broilers with one day of age. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments and six replications. The treatments consisted in addition levels of annatto oily extrat (0%, 0.714%, 1.428%, 2.142% and 3.571%) to ensure the inclusion of 0; 0.05%; 0.10%; 0.15% and 0.25% bixin, since the annatto oily extrat has 7% of bixin. Variables of performance, health and meat quality were evaluated. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, complemented by Tukey test (± = 5%) using Minitab 16®. The second experiment consisted in two studies. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial 3x2 willing + 2 with eight treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of: 1) basal diet (BD) with fresh soybean oil inclusion (FO); 2) DB with oxidized soybean oil inclusion (OO); 3) DB + 0.714% of annatto oily extract (AOE) + FO; 4) DB + 0.714% of AOE + OO; 5) DB + 1,428% of AOE + FO; 6) DB + 1,428% of AOE + OO; 7) DB + FO + BHT (positive control 1); and 8) DB + OO + BHT (positive control 2). The annatto oily extract has 7% of bixin, representing the inclusion of 0.05% of bixin in treatments 3 and 4 and 0.10% of bixin in treatments 5 and 6. In the first study (metabolism) 240 chicks Ross 380 with one day of age were housed in two trials with 120 chicks each and, for the second experiment (performance, health and meat quality), 1000 chicks Ross 380 with one day of age were used. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, complemented by Tukey test (± = 5%) using Minitab 16®. To compare the means of the controls with the factorial the Dunnet test (± = 5%) was used.
