Abstract

The academy provides an interdisciplinary contribution to the understanding of environmental sciences, making possible to exchange experiences. In a highly globalized world network building is practically necessary within the academies. It is crucial to assess the influence that these networks can create among the participants and the impact they may provide in the formulation and implementation process of public policies and over society. The high degree of aggregation of networks brings benefits to the sharing of knowledge and experiences among participants, efforts to optimize time spent on research as well as invested in financial resources and infrastructure necessary to the network operation. The network research has been encouraged by funding agencies- CEPIDs and PPPPs (FAPESP); INCTs and Pronex (CNPq), among others. This project therefore aims to examine the structural aspects, pros and cons, as well as monitor the development of the Research Support Center on Climate Change - NapMC and their relationships with other programs and networks on the same topic. This Center aggregates ten USP institutions shaped as a research network on climate change, and some of its researchers also coordinate ongoing projects by FAPESP Research Programme on Global Climate Change - RPGCC, what increases the synergy among the networks. The methodology foresees application of interviews and questionnaires to members of the network, workshops, monitoring of activities as well to apply the following tools for mapping networks : UCINET 6 for Windows and NetDraw 2.10. At the end, it is expected to obtain the analysis of the NapMC aiming at strengthening the network actions, communication with other networks and programs on climate change, providing social impacts and public policies, as well as following the consolidation of this network as a Center on Climate Change Research.
