Abstract

Introduction: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) belongs to the Papillomaviridae family and is considered a sexually transmitted infection, highly disseminated, with about 50% of sexually active adults infected. In HIV-infected individuals, oral HPV infection is more frequent, with more aggressive manifestations, prevalence and high rate of resistance, as well as a greater number of relapses treatment against HPV. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of HPV in oral fluid in men infected with HIV-1, HPV types and to correlate the presence of HPV and the risk factors associated with oral transmission. Material and method: 300 samples will be collected oral wash male patients, from the Secondary Immunodeficiencies Clinic. The oral lavage samples will be subjected to DNA extraction, amplification by conventional PCR, using primers and PGMY09 PGMY11, and HPV types will be determined by test, Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP). Our preliminary data showed a high presence of HPV in oral fluid (~ 30%). This study will determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with the presence of HPV in HIV-infected men, it will be important in the prevention and possible use of prophylactic vaccines.
