Abstract

This research is linked to the Agreement on International Cooperation USP / UP, between the Instituto de Arquitetura e Urbanismo (IAU.USP) and the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP), whose project is entitled "Arquitetura, Desenho e Representação: metodologias de desenho no ensino de Projeto". Among the objectives of the project is the study of production of Brazilian and Portuguese architects whose work processes reflect particular qualities in the relationship with the architecture and drawing practice. Nowadays we are experiencing a period marked by plenty of visual media and entertainment industry, consequences of technological progress, which mark a horizon guided by the image, which enhances the spectacle and ephemeral. During the last years, the role of graphic representations has been questioned. Thus, considering the context of new digital technologies, this research has as main objective to study and analyze the drawings (graphical representations) of projects by the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, as a contribution to the discussion on the role of analog drawing in the current projective process. We also intend to organize the graphical material donated by the office of the Architect Paulo Mendes for the development of comparative studies between the Brazilian and Portuguese architects. During the activities, we seek to approximate the researcher of the projectual universe of the Architect Paulo Mendes, through the study of his drawings and also through the elaboration of observation drawings by the researcher of the selected works.
