Abstract

The Brazil concentrates 3% of the world population and it is currently responsible for about 6.5% of the garbage in the world. In 2010, Brazil produced 60.8 million tons of urban solid waste. This amount was 6.8% higher than the registered in 2009. Some Brazilian cities collecting this waste produced by the inhabitants, disposing it in sanitary landfills, however, the most of people do not care about the destination of their garbage. Using the techniques of composting in the sanitary landfill provides a useful destination and prevents the garbage-accumulation. This process has as a basic principle, the ability of filamentous fungus to secrete enzymes depolimerizing of vegetal material like cellulases, pectinases and xylanases. The objective of this work is to study the diversity of mesophilic and thermophilic fungi during all the cycle of composting of the organic waste in sanitary landfills and to study the production of enzymes through the fungi.
