Abstract

The number of researches about Cadmium (Cd) effect in crops is increasing because the important impacts of this soil contaminant under field production and humans health. Nowadays, our research group is focused in studies using tomato plants of cv Micro-Tom (Solanum lycopersicum L. cv MT) as a model to understand about Cd effect in cell oxidative stress, cell metabolism and order physiological alterations. However, there are no studies to evaluate the Cd tolerance in tomato accessions, which includes cultivars, landraces and wild species. The objective of this purpose is to evaluate several different tomato accessions (differences in genotype and morphology), to screening plants contrasting in levels of Cd tolerance, considering intrinsic genetic and environmental interactions of each one. Finally, we consider that integrated study of global and specific alterations amount distinct accessions may clarify the mechanisms of tolerance and sensitivity to Cd in tomato plants, approaching results to tomato crop. Additionally, this project can direct others researches, helping in the choice of parents to generate QTLs mapping populations, proteomic studies, phytoremediation and others. (AU)
