Abstract

Considering the different stages of the process of capitalist accumulation, this research focuses on identifying the main factors that gradually formed the current industrial profile of the city of Taubaté-SP and redefined their roles in the division of brazilian industrial work. From a set of data and information relating to different sub-sectors of the manufacturing industry, we made an effort to understand what were the processes and dynamics that produced in this space a significant level of concentration and specialization in specific segments of the industrial sector, which by promoting intense spatial interactions at multiple scales to carry out the production, give this industrial space distinctive features that sets them apart from others in regional, state and even national scales. To pay attention to the historical dynamics that produce continuously selective spaces for the expansion of reproduction of industrial capital, we observe a set of socio-spatial determinants that have been consolidated throughout the twentieth century and repositioned the characteristics of the geographical situation to the performance of the industrial capital installments with significant importance for the Brazilian economy. At the same time, we also seek to highlight the profile of the industry located in the city through the dynamics of formal jobs in each branch of industrial activity. This procedure aimed to demonstrate the changes in the industry located in Taubaté seeking to understand, both the processes that are common among capitals located in this space and in others, as the particularities that can be evidenced this comparison in order to highlight the more general mechanisms that permeate the performance of this sector and what their impacts on the different spaces that are entered into its reproduction logic.
