Abstract

The project is based on the evidence of the importance of the railroad northwest of Brazil in the formation of urban and economic city of Bauru. Intends to see through primary research sources, that the life of the city, was in the course of its history, intrinsically involved with the Northwestern Railroad. The historical approach will cover three key moments: the first moment of arrival and installation of the railway in the city, construction began in 1905 and the headquarters of NOB in 1917. The second time, the installation of General Workshop of the Northwest of Brazil in the city of Bauru in 1921 by the then director of the Company, Arlindo Light, since the workshops are considered the industrial base of the railroad where they were made to maintain, assembly and reconstruction of the main part of the railway rolling stock. And the third time, the unification of the three railroads installed here Sorocaba, São Paulo and Northwest into one central building opened in Bauru in 1939. Aims to determine how the deployment of huge transport infrastructure spurred the emergence of adjacent neighborhoods, such as labor formed by the railway served in the buildings of the city, as large sums of money streams in urban areas due to the company, acted for local development, and even the impact formations represented by the urban area of Northwest that depended, in the beginning, the city of Bauru. Local media operating in the historical period focused assumes crucial role, being examined more deeply in search of notes, headlines, editorials showing the relationship between urban growth, the daily life of the Bauru population and the various moments of the Northwest in the city, a Since the source is more direct, instant and intuitive to what happened on the day-to-day Bauru. Local press in active periods, we intend to study copies of the "Courier Northwest," the "Mail and Sorocabana Northwest", the "Leaf People" and "Diary of Bauru." It is believed that the newspaper can be considered a forum for discussion of society and the city, which is reported and discussed the issues considered most important and which therefore serves to provide visibility to certain subjects and social agents, hiding and discrediting others, spreading concepts and values. It is intended from the newspaper to understand the relief that the railroad was taking historically, its importance in city life, and the peculiarities which it issued in the urban area of Bauru. This research will be guided by Prof. Dr. Nilson Ghirardello, author of several works on railways and in particular addressing the Northwest Railway of Brazil, called: The Big Line Urban Formations of Northwestern São Paulo Editora UNESP, São Paulo, 2001. This research project is also linked to the project EFNOB / Bauru, KM 0, number, and FAPESP 2011/511014-6 CONDEPHAAAT 2012/50041-2, which seeks to recover the history of all the assets of the Company present in Iron City Bauru.
