Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is characterized by injury with progressive and irreversible loss of kidney function. Due to the ability to adapt to these organs chronic loss of nephrons, the homeostasis of the body is maintained until later stages of the disease, causing the individual to be asymptomatic for years. When the kidneys can no longer eliminate the toxins released by the metabolism and maintain the physical and chemical composition of the organism within the normal range, it is necessary to refer the patient to renal replacement therapy. One of the treatments used in the DRC is hemodialysis. The hemodialysis is responsible for a daily monotonous and restricted to these patients, limiting their activities, promoting physical inactivity and functional impairment, factors that reflect their quality of life. From these observations we will use the SF-36 instrument for monitoring the quality of life for hemodialysis patients, thus verifying the possibilities and limits to allow the awareness of patients regarding their situation with a view to a transformation of this reality. With regard to functional independence of the personal care, the Barthel Index, assesses mobility, locomotion, and deletions. In the clinical context the Barthel Index gives us important information not only from the total score, but also from the partial scores for each activity under consideration, because you can know what are the specific disabilities of the person and as such adequate care forneeds. Objective: To measure the quality of life through questions (SF-36) and through the functional dependence Barthel Index in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methodology: for this research will be selected patients of both sexes aged 40-60 years, diagnosed with CKD attending the Instituto do rim da Santa Casa de Misericordia de Presidente Prudente - SP. The questions will be the modified Barthel Index and the SF-36. The data is tabulated in Excel, by statistical analysis.(AU)
