Abstract

This PhD project intends to investigate conferences and multilateral agreements about water. The context of this global crisis is present in documents of international organizations. Supported by information from these documents, as well as previous studies on the subject, this paper aims to investigate how the unequal extent of geographic distribution of water is related to a specific dynamic in the international debate, in particular the relationship between so-called rich and poor countries. The sociological perspective can make important contributions to the analysis of this scenario. On a conceptual level the research will discuss the production of knowledge about water from the dominant epistemology of modernity, which is the technical-scientific and economic rationality. Are also investigated possible differences and conflicts present in the arena of debate that might characterize a binary between the West and the rest of the world as the developments of analytical studies on the relationship of subordination and appropriation of discourse.
