Abstract

Natural ecosystems represent an invaluable source of genetic resources and prospects of man, both as a direct source of products such as producing other services. Much of these resources is being destroyed irreversibly, even before his knowledge, requiring urgent conservation measures For this reason, it is necessary to further study the potential of these species. A fundamental point is to understand how phenotypic variability, results from the combined effects of genetic and environmental, which can done by determining the heritability of adaptive traits. The objectives this work are to investigate the genetic control of growth traits in natural populations fragmented and continuous Araucaria angustifolia. The following questions are addressed: i) There are differences in levels of heritability among populations and between generations of the same population? and ii) What levels of heritability for growth traits in natural populations? This study will be developed with two populations of A. angustifolia, one of which is located in the Reserve Forest Genetics (RFG) from Caçador, in north plateau of Santa Catarina State, and the other study site is in a forest fragment of 5.4 ha located on a farm. The fragment is located on the plateau of Paraná, in the Iguaçu basin. The data analysis will be made with the method of Ritland (1996a) and Ritland and Travis (2004) using the Mark program version 3.1 (Ritland, 2004). The results allow understanding the relationship of these individuals in the study site through its heritability coefficients.
