Abstract

With the increasing development, closely linked to the population growth and a predatory economic system, it is noted increasingly changes and degrades in the natural environment in favor of individual satisfaction. In order to minimize the impacts of this development and protect biodiversity the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) were created by law, mainly for maintenance and preservation of the environment. To ensure and contribute to monitoring and surveillance of existing legislation has been allied to the techniques of Geoprocessing and the Geographic Information System (GIS). These have proved effective for environmental analysis. Thus, this study aims to map the different land uses found in the Watershed of the Rio da Prata River, with emphasis on the PPA occupations from the ALOS satellite images of its PRISM sensor (2.5-meter resolution space) and topographic maps of the area. The images are processed in ArcGIS Idrisi Taiga and 9.3.1 available At Unesp Ourinhos.(AU)
