Abstract This research project intends to study the socialenvironmental impacts due to improper land use and occupation in the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) in the city of Paulínia (SP). This city holds many industries, especially petrochemical, and has, over the last years, a high population growth rate compared to the other cities of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. The increase in occupation results in conflicting uses in the PPAs, which generates several kinds of socialenvironmental impacts that degrades the environment, in several levels of significance. The methodology going to be used consists of field activities to survey and register the main types of occurring impacts and the utilization of geoprocessing techniques for mapping and analysis of these impacts by spatial correlations of several thematic maps. The research intends to contribute to a better understanding of the environmental situation and of the influence of the unpreserved PPAs in the degradation of the environment of the city of Paulínia. | |
