Abstract

This project aims to continue the research carried abroad from September 2010 to august 2011 (Scholarship PDEE CAPES). The focus of this research is the comparative study between the French theater serials written between 1836-1846, by Hector Berlioz, and the Brazilian theater serials written by Martins Pena the 1846-1847. Based on the literature and press theory of the 19th century and in the Cultural Transfers, theorized by Michel Espagne (1999), we propose to observe and to analyze the formal features, specific of the French theater serials, that resound in the Pena's series thanks to the process of the transfer and adaptation of the column to the Brazilian press. Specifically, we analyze the assimilation and the resound of the method, writing and the style of the French serial writer in the construction of the Pena's poetic, specially the journalistic irony, a characteristic procedure of the French dramatic bas de page, also present at the Pena's serials. Therefore, our hypothesis is that the Pena's theater serials are built as from many cultural borrowings, consequently literary borrowings, adapted and re-meant in the Brazilian context. Thereby, considering the re-assessment of this narrow relationship, we intend to contribute for the studies about literature and press, and comparative literature, we analyze, from the diachronic perspective, the context and the literary writing of the effective cultural transfer in the dramatic serial of the undoubted and important media revolution in the 19th century.
