Abstract

Judgment is the capacity of making decisions after consideration about available information, contextual factors, possible solutions and probable outcomes. Some studies showed that Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia patients have impairment in judgment. There is a lack of specific methods to measure judgment capacity, and data about judgment abilities in older adults with MCI and dementia are scarce. Although the clinical opinion is an accepted standard to determine this skill in everyday life, the lack of a gold standard can make clinical judgment questionable. The main objective of this work is the adaptation, to a Brazilian sample, of the Test of Practical Judgment (TOP-J), a clinically relevant measure for assessing judgment in older adults, developed by Rabin and colleagues (2007). The sample will be composed for 120 subjects with minimum age of 50 years and minimum education of 4 years. Will be evaluated 50 cognitively healthy controls and 70 patients, 20 patients diagnosed with MCI (single domain or multiple domains) and 50 patients with mild dementia, being 20 diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's disease, 15 with a diagnosis of probable vascular dementia and 15 diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (behavioral variant). As a secondary objective, the performance in the TOP-J will be compared between the groups. (AU)
