Abstract

The Brazilian carp production was in 2010 of 94.579 tons, been the second group of more produced fishes. Ornamental carps (koi) and goldfishes are the main ornamental fish produced in Brazil, with a production that is over 03 million.South America has the largest number of known species of continental fishes in the world. Brazil had a case of spring viraemia of carp in goldfish, in 1998. The intensive farming of cyprinids associated with large international movement of specimens without sanitary certification, contributed to fast worldwide distribution of pathogens responsible for mass mortality of farming, ornamental and wild fishes. Within the standard of FAO/OIE, there are ten notifiable diseases of fishes, been eight of viral origin. Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3) and spring viraemia of carp (SVC) are notifiable diseases, according to OIE, with high mortality rate. Cyprinid herpesvirus 2 (CyHV-2) has a mortality rate of 50-100% and affects Carassius auratus. Cyprinid herpesvirus 1(CyHV-1) causes a skin disease. This study aims to investigate the presence of Cyprinid herpesvirus 1, 2 e/or 3 in koi carps (Cyprinus carpio) and goldfishes (Carassius auratus) from centers of live fishes of Brazil, previously registered by IBAMA and Ministry of Fisheries (MPA), and cyprinids fish farms. Through this research, we might provide future support for the establishment of a better control of these pathogens, helping with brazilian aquaculture and preservation of the ichthyofauna. The second aim will be to catalog the main infectious agents and pathology within these species.It will be collected 50 fishes (koi carps and goldfishes) from: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Paraná. It will be made post mortem macroscopical evaluation, histopathological evaluation, identification by PCR analysis of CyHV-1, CyHV-2, CyHV-3, Spring Viremia of carp (SVC) and koi sleepy disease (CEV), bacteria identification, ectoparasites (Protozoan, Monogenetic, Trematode, Crustacean) and endoparasites (Nematodes, Cestodes) identification and quantification.
