Abstract

The occurrence of mass movement is related to several controlling factors, such as the morphology of the slope, lithology, vegetation, and soil, which turns fundamental the studies concerning the dynamics and behavior of the slopes, especially where they are subjected to extreme natural conditions as large rainfall. By reason of your natural conditions and history of the occurrence from such process related to extreme conditions, the Caraguatatuba region, on the shore of Sao Paulo, was selected as a study area to understand the major controlling factors that influence the occurrence of shallow translational landslide and debris flow in hydrographic basins. Thereby, the objective of this research is to identify the main factors morphological (related to the slopes specifically) and morphometric (related to the hydrographic basin dynamic) that contribute to the occurrence of debris flow in the city of Caraguatatuba (SP). For this, will be selected two hydrographic basins with similar characteristics, with and without debris flow deposits; the localization and characterization of shallows landslides' scars and the debris flows deposits from 1967 events; identified the main morphometric and morphologic factors from the basins analyzed, and ultimately the quantitative analysis between the morphologic and morphometric parameters with the debris flow deposits. The methodology is apart in three major axes: first has as objective the selection of the hydrographic basins with specific characteristics to the research; the second is the mapping of debris-flow deposits; and for last will be made the mapping and analysis of morphologic and morphometric parameters, evaluating its relationship with the deposits previously checked.(AU)
