Abstract

Biotechnological strategies have been developed to assist in the control of insect pests of field crops. It is known that the biotechnological potential of Cry and Vip proteins from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis is widely known and established. However, the evolution of pest resistance is a major threat to long-term control of insect pests by transgenic plants containing toxins of this bacterium. Thus, it is important to find new genes with different modes of action, and select those with differentiated entomotoxic activity for Diatraea flavipennella that a sugar cane insect pest and Elasmopalpus lignosellus, that attacks various cultures, among them, sugar cane, soybeans and corn. Thus, this paper aims to select and study the mode of action of these toxic proteins for the mentioned insects, that could be present in pyramidized plants, directing to the possible resistance handling. For both species of pest insects Will be tested Vip3 and Cry1 proteins by examining their toxical potentiality and their interactions with the membrane receptors of the intestinal epithelium (BBMVs) of these insects, since there are no reports so far, the competition for the same receptor between these proteins. Thus, the obtained results are going to provide vip3 and cry1 genes candidates for controlling these important agricultural pests in future events of genetically modified sugar cane generation with more than one transgene, which could dribble the appearance of resistance by these insects.
