Abstract

This project aims the evaluation of the synthesis metabolism of rhamnolipids and polyhydroxyalkanoates in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Mutants affected in the biosynthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates will be obtained and evaluated in relation to the production of rhamnolipids from different carbon sources. Since rhamnolipids and polyhydroxyalkanoates can be produced simultaneously, the metabolism routes must compete for intermediates of the metabolism. Therefore, the obtention of mutants affected in the biosynthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates can lead to a better understanding of the rhamnolipids synthesis process and present a better comprehension of the factors which directly affect the production of rhamnolipids.(AU)
