Abstract

Deprivation sex hormones, natural or induced, contributes to the appearance of several metabolic and endocrine disorders such as insulin resistance, glucose intolerance and diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, due in part to the protective effect of estrogens. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), most abundant steroid in humans, produce primarily by the adrenal cortex, is converted to androgens and estrogens in peripheral tissues. In postmenopausal women in the synthesis of estrogens and androgens are made locally in peripheral tissues by tissue-specific steroidogenic enzymes through a process intrácrino, with the adrenal precursor steroids DHEA, DHEA-S and androstenedione. The use of DHEA as food supplement, both in humans and in experimental models, was related to reduced obesity, insulin resistance and the risk of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, recently published that supplementation with DHEA to rats hypertensive due to ovariectomy plays a protective role in aortic rings assessed for response to vasoconstrictors and vasodilatoadores with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant (Camporez et al., 2011). The objective of the current master's project is to evaluate the effect of DHEA supplementation on the morphology of ventricular myocytes and cardiac expression of inflammatory cytokines and receptors for insulin and IGF-1 in hearts of obese and hypertensive rats due to castration and high-fat diet . Parameters will be evaluated zoomorphic, glycemic control, expression of proteins involved in pathways of insulin and IGF-1 and inflammatory cytokines and morphometric parameters in cardiac muscle tissue of the left ventricle (LV).
