Abstract

The sit-to-walk (STW) task is highly used during daily life and it is characterized by the transfer of the body forward walking start, before the full upright position. Compared to young, elderly present higher difficulties in performing sequential motor tasks, as evidenced by the longer time of accomplishment and higher separation between the different STW phases. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neuropathology that leads to an impairment to initiate and perform sequential movements and therefore it can lead individuals subjects to present a poorer performance in the STW to present a more impaired performance on the STW is the Parkinson's disease (PD). In this way there is a need of further studies investigating the impact of PD in the STW since it seems to be is a close relationship between the disease impairments and the STW performance. Thus, this study has as main objective to assess the motor behavior during the STW task in healthy elderly PD patients. These last will be being assigned into two groups (fallers 15 subjects and non-fallers 15 subjects). To assign these patients as fallers and non-fallers they will answer a questionnaire of falls, whereas patients who fell once inlast year will be considered as faller. Motor behavior will be accessed by means of kinematic variables (spatial and spatio-temporal, center of mass) and kinetic (center of pressure, and ground reaction forces). These variables will be compared between groups using appropriate statistical analysis (p<0,05).
