Maternity in adolescence: analysis of mother-infant interaction

Abstract

Maternity is considered a transition period and is expected to happen in the adult phase of women who must be prepared emotionally and personally to take care of and educate a child. The occurrence of adolescent maternity may result, in addition to health problems for both mother and child for in psychological problems for the baby. However, studies differ as to developments subject of motherhood in adolescence as a risk factor for both the mother and the baby. In general, is considered a risk factor only when it is associated with other factors, such as the achievement of late prenatal care, lack of family support, abandonment by their partners, among others. The objective of this study is to investigate the quality of interaction between teen mothers and their babies and compare it with the interaction between mothers and their adult children. Participate in the survey 24 mothers, 12 adults with 22 or more years and 12 adolescents up to 17 years and 11 months, and their babies aged four to six months. Once identified and defined dyads will be held the filming of a play situation, lasting 10 minutes. Toys will be available but their use is not suggested. For analysis of mother-infant interaction will use the Observation Protocol Interaction Mother-Baby 0-6 months (POIMB 0-6). The results will be analyzed based on the description of the interaction between mother and teenage mother and her adult babies and subsequent comparison between groups.(AU)
