Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the notion of décadence and its implications with the theme of art in the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in The Case of Wagner (1888). The treatment that will be developed in relation to The Case of Wagner find your starting point in The Birth of Tragedy (1872) to thereby evaluate the become of the problem of décadence and art in other writings relating to the last phase of Nietzsche (1888). In this sense, the research will take into account not only the become of Nietzsche, but also the become of his writings, in other words, how The Case of Wagner can be seen from the perspective of a triad with the work of youth (GT/NT) and the period of 1888. The focus will be on the criticism that the philosopher makes to Wagner, however, considering that "Wagner" has been ironically chosen as the scenario that Nietzsche uses to address a problem that diagnoses from his earliest writings: the decadence of a culture, precisely, the German. Thereafter, intends to show how in Nietzsche, a problem of art, in other words, the scope of create, can not be considered separately from a problem of décadence. To this end, the research will focus in the analysis of texts, in which a detailed study of The Case of Wagner will be the starting and working point. The other texts mentioned in the bibliography will be used as may it helps in investigating the subject in question, namely, art and décadence. (AU)
