Abstract

This project will evaluate the effect of a mouthwash with calcium before fluoride toothpaste on erosion associated to abrasion of bovine dentin in vitro. During 5 days, bovine dentin blocks (n = 20) will be submitted the erosion + abrasion. The study will include the following treatments: rinsing with calcium and fluoride dentifrice (BCa + DF), rinse with calcium and placebo dentifrice (BCa + DP), rinsed with deionized water and using fluoridated dentifrice (BP + DF) and rinse with deionized water and dentifrice placebo (BP + DP). The erosion will be conducted 4 times per day for cola type refrigerant (90 s each), for 5 days. For abrasion, the blocks will be brushed, using electric toothbrush (Oral B-Pro Health Power) and the dentifrice slurry to be used for each group (3 g: 10 mL deionized water) for 15 s, 2x/day. Between the erosion and abrasion, each block will be immersed in 10 mL of deionized water or solution of 150 mM calcium lactate for 1 min, with stirring, 2x/day. The response variable will be the analysis by profilometry (µm). The data will be checked for normality and homogeneity (Bartlett's test / Kolmogorov and Smirnov), and will apply the most appropriate statistical test results (p <0.05).Keywords: calcium, dental erosion, tooth abrasion, dentin, hydroxyapatite, remineralization, fluoride toothpaste.
