Abstract

The oxidizing effect caused by free radicals from the metabolism of O2 occurs naturally in the body. Oxidative stress is the increase of this condition, it is correlated to the onset of diseases, and can be intensified by exposure to external factors such as solar radiation, causing significant cells damages and can lead to accelerated aging of cells. Studies with plant extracts have shown that they contain compounds of pharmacological interest to treat and/or prevent cells damages caused by oxidative stress, which may result in a photoprotective and antiglicant action. In this context, this work aims at evaluating the antioxidant and antiglicant potential, photoprotection and quantifying flavonoids, phenols and determining the content of vitamin C in ethanolic and hydroethanolic extracts of leaf and fruit of P. glomerata.(AU)
