Abstract

The literature reports a number of morphological and anatomical data, chemical and genetic on C. sylvestris, a medicinal plant widely used by the population in various Brazilian regions, as antiulcer and with anti-inflammatory properties. Scarce data is known about the two varieties C. sylvestris var. lingua of the Cerrado biomes and between C. sylvestris var. sylvestris occurring in the Atlantic, on their chemical differentiation. The literature reports data describing significant genetic differences between these two varieties, and so far chemical diversity of these, does not have been investigated. In the transition regions of Cerrado/ Atlantic Forest, these two varieties co-habitat, with these varieties with intermediate characteristics, both in terms of morpho-anatomical and genetic differeces. There is evidence that in C. sylvestris var. lingua/Cerrado predominantly was found phenolic compounds, while in C. sylvestris var. sylvestris/Atlantic Forest predominates clerodane diterpenes, described as antitumoral, which is one research lines of nubbe´s interest. The project thematic - "Prospecting for bioactive molecules and study of infra-specific variability in plants and endophytes from Cerrado and Caatinga, a contribution to knowledge and sustainable use of Brazilian biodiversity, one of the goals is the metabolomic study of medicinal plant species". (CNPq 563311/2010-0 and FAPESP 2010/52327-5). Some secondary metabolites are related and/or conditioned to edaphic, resulting in distinct morphotypes, due to the genetic control of species. This project is aimed at metabolomic studies of the two varieties of C. sylvestris, looking for the chemical profile of the these varieties, being one of medicinal interest and included in the list of herbal medicines of Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) of the Ministry of Health.
