Abstract

The nonenzymatic glycation of proteins (AGEs) is a well-known factor for the pathophysiology of aging and metabolic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus (DM). The generation of AGEs occurs through non-enzymatic glycation reactions in the dermal extracellular matrix and it has been pointed as one of the responsible factors for loss of elasticity and deficiency of skin healing. The skin permeation of anti-AGE compounds is an important challenge for the efficacy of compounds that must reach deep layers of skin. Several natural and synthetic AGEs inhibitors have been recently discovered. These compounds are considered a promising innovational therapy in the treatment of alterations caused by AGEs in skin cells. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the toxicity of the anti-glycation compounds aminoguanidine and carnosine in artificial skin that contains dermal equivalent glycated. Immunohistochemistry techniques will be performed using specific markers to proliferation and cell death. (AU)
