Abstract

This project aims the synthesis of hydrogels based on 1'-O-sucrose methacrylate (SMA) and N-isopropylacrylmide (NIPAAm). 1'-O-sucrose methacrylate will be obtained by regioselective esterification of sucrose via enzymatic catalysis. SMA and NIPAAm will be copolymerized by radicular polymerization in presence of sucrose dimethacrylate, resulting in materials that may show high water swelling capacity, typical behavior of hydrogels. It is expected to obtain biodegradable and biocompatible hydrogels. Thermoresponsivity is expected due to fact that aqueous solutions of poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) and copolymers based on sucrose methacrylate and is acrylamide shown phase separation with heating.
